*2013 - Sept (12th), 13th - 15th - SNCR Weekend around
George Singer’s Birthplace
in Kingston Maurward, Dorchester, Dorset.
Given the importance of this location to all Singer folk, enthusiasts from Singer Clubs worldwide will be invited to attend. Our ‘Base Camp’ for the weekend is the George Albert Hotel on the A37 north of Dorchester. We have negotiated a special B & B rate of £90.00 per couple per night, based on a minimum two night stay. It is most important that you book as soon as possible in order to secure your room. The telephone number is 01935 483430 - say you are with the Singer party in order to get the special rate. There is a caravan site associated with the hotel which may be of benefit to some members. You can see more hotel details on their web site www.gahotel.co.uk
Provisional Programme for Singer National Car Weekend 2013 in Honour of George Singer
Thursday 12th - Informal evening get together at the George Albert hotel, with food available - sandwiches and light snacks through to full meals. Rally instructions and routes will be handed out.
Friday 13th - Scenic drive to Kingston Maurward for a day of George Singer activities. This is where we shall be very close to George Singer and his family, seeing where they lived, and walking where they walked. There will be a plaque unveiling at the Elizabethan Manor House, where the family were living when George was born, and a buffet lunch/reception will be held at Kingston Maurward Mansion, now used as a college. Other proposals include the unveiling of a George Singer Snr picture, and/or a locally made tribute, at the College’s Visitor Centre, and a talk on Kingston Maurward and its connection with George Singer and Thomas Hardy.
Friday Evening - Bus (vintage?) trip from hotel to Green Man at King's Stag for informal meal, followed by quiz. We have sampled the food there - it is very good.
Saturday 14th - Scenic drive to Dorchester to see museums and shops, then via scenic route, including Thomas Hardy Monument and Jurassic Coast views, to Abbotsbury and/or other suitable attraction.
Saturday Evening - the traditional Club dinner at the George Albert Hotel, with after dinner presentations.
